Welcome to Greetings from Italy, my Italy 2007 Trip Reports web site. Having come back from a two week post-graduation trip to Italy, I feel compelled to share my experiences with friends and family. And this time, rather than make a site after sending a plethora of e-mails, I am posting my photos and thoughts on this site as I note them. In a way, that makes this a travel blog--one that documents a beautiful country that actually surpassed my expecations (I'm an admitted Francophile, so I didn't place any exuberant wishes on Italy).
My trip reports from my Fall 2006 semester in France followed a more casual, narrative structure, simply outlining my journeys and adventures. With this set, I'm aiming for a slightly different tone--one that still weaves a story, but one that also tries to include observations and insights from my two weeks abroad. Most of this is inspired by the writing style of Adam Gopnik, especially as displayed in his book, Paris to the Moon. There's also inspiration from various travel journals my friends have sent back, documenting both the places they have visited and their thoughts about them.
Above all else, however, my goal is to allow readers a vicarious glimpse into my own fortunate experiences. A sort of virtual trip, in a way. Hence the copious amount of photos. And heck... it might even help those planning future trips!
Naturally, this is a rather graphics intensive site. I've tried to improve upon the France Trip Reports model (which basically had all the photos from any location on the same page), and as such, you shouldn't expect any more than 20 photos on the same page (compared to several dozen in some of my France reports). Still, the photos are somewhat large and may take a longer moment to load than an impatient person would want. So have patience.
