TEMPLE STREET MID-RISE HOUSING

[DESIGN PROJECT]

| The final project takes the same Temple Street site and triples the density, placing 24 units on a lot 2.5 times larger than the previous design.
This scheme uses two bars that anchor a central courtyard. Built on top of a street level parking structure, the elevated podium yields some rather nice views of Downtown Los Angeles. The units are divided into a series of flats on the east bar and two-story maisonettes on the west side. The maisonettes are patterned after Park Hill Apartments in Sheffield, England. These dense but cozy units are designed to accomodate up to a family of our. Entry to the maisonettes are on the first and fourth floors. Circulation wraps around the central courtyard and includes a skybridge on the fourth level to enhance the framed views to the south. The complex also includes a recreation building by streetside, offices, and a swimming pool area. A light well punctures the ground slab and allows light into the garage, relieving the dark space. |
