TEMPLE STREET LOW-RISE HOUSING

[DESIGN PROJECT]

| This semester was devoted to housing, and after a quick two weeks tackling the design of a single unit, it was time to move onto a slightly larger low-rise housing project.
This design adheres to the slope of the site, which allows the front entry to stand a full story below the rear entry. The building is organized along an ‘L’ shaped parti, which addresses the site’s street corner condition, taking the front live-work unit and attaching it to a pair of rented out housing units inspired by Corbusier’s Unité modules, yielding stacked spaces separated by a central corridor. Outdoor space is also emphasized in this design, with each unit receiving plenty of exterior garden and balcony space that tie together in the grand layout yet still retain individual privacy. The building uses planar architecture that slides into and along each itself. This device also helps shade against the western sun during the afternoon. |
