[DESIGN PROJECT]

| The
spring semester of third year was devoted to the design of a community
live theater. The site for this design was located in the North
Hollywood Arts District, on the southeast corner of Lankershim Blvd
and Weddington St. The elevation features an inset first floor to create the sensation of a floating box on the second story, which also features long horizontal louvers to help with solar shading and maintain horizontality. Circulation creates a "top hat" shaped building parti that organizes the program within the parallelogram site. The Lankershim bar reinforces the commercial frontage, while pop-outs on the Weddington Street side provide a secondary facade for an after-school program within the theater complex. Similar to Second Year spring semester, a higher scaled detail materials and structure model was required to indicate how students envisioned putting together this building. |
